My Favorite Things o Mis cosas favoritas es una mítica canción escrita por Richard Rogers y Oscar Hammerstein II para la comedia musical de broadway "The Sound of Music", que fue estrenada en 1959, y que cantara Julie Andrews para la banda de sonido de la película que en los ’60 llevó el musical al cine. El vals se ha convertido en un estándar del jazz y versionado por diversos artistas, algunas de las cuales hemos recopilado en este post minimalista.
La obra presenta una estructura formada por las secciones "A-A-A'-B". Dentro de A hay dos frases, cada una con dos semifrases, por lo que quedaría "a, a, b, c". Por otro lado, A' tiene la misma estructura que A, salvo la "c", que pasa a ser "c' " ya que varía el final. En la sección B se puede observar una progresión entre los compases 41 y 45, y al final una coda.
Una de las mejores, sin dudas, es la memorable versión de John Coltrane, que se convirtió en un verdadero éxito de ventas, por la sencillez y belleza con la que desarrollan tanto vistuosismo, y de la que el mismo Coltrane ha versionado de manera diferente y con distintas formaciones. De un sencillo vals construye esta poderosa canción. Los grandes músicos y las grandes canciones acaban encontrándose, como lo hizo Coltrane con "My Favourite Things".
